Some background: the Haiku-Off is composed of 10 rounds of Haikus, in which each contestant writes for 60 seconds on various topics, which are drawn from a sealed envelope and announced by the Haiku-Off Scorekeeper/Master of Ceremonies. Haikus are then scored by a panel of volunteer judges, who award up to 5 points for creativity and 5 points for technical elements (correct adhesion to the 5-7-5 syllabic rule, etc.).
