Highlights from the 3rd Annual Haiku-Off

Saturday, June 15th was the 3rd Annual Haiku-Off at Mulleady's Pub in Magnolia.

Some background: the Haiku-Off is composed of 10 rounds of Haikus, in which each contestant writes for 60 seconds on various topics, which are drawn from a sealed envelope and announced by the Haiku-Off Scorekeeper/Master of Ceremonies. Haikus are then scored by a panel of volunteer judges, who award up to 5 points for creativity and 5 points for technical elements (correct adhesion to the 5-7-5 syllabic rule, etc.).

Here are some highlights from 2013!

Pocket Watches

Thank you Grandpa Joe
Now I'll always know the time
Look at my iPhone

Tupperware

Let's have a party
I'll bring my rubbers around
you bring your mothers
---
Look, pushy lady
I know it's from the 80's
vintage leftovers

County Fairs

Dear Lucinda May
I'ma take you out of this town
screw this tilt-a-whirl

Hair

It's political
documentaries and shit
no, you can't touch it

Origami

Making tiny folds
distracts me from the firestorm
but wait, paper burns!
